Instrumentation: Flute 1, Flute 2 / Descant Recorder, Clarinet in Bb, Violin, Accordion / Piano / Guitar and Bass.

This arrangement of a beautiful, traditional Irish tune was done for the Folk Band at the last school where I taught. It proved very popular, no doubt in some small part to the fact that one of the violinists was called Tara.

It is another of my “flexible” arrangements in that there can be some substitution of instrumentation to accommodate resources available.  However, the variety of timbre does greatly enhance the effect. As with the other pieces for this group of instruments, it is suitable for ensemble work with players of suitable abilities as well as being eminently at home as a Ceilidh piece, a Concert piece or as an Ensemble submission for any of the current GCSE specifications.

Other slow airs arranged for this ensemble include “Sweet Hesleyside”, “Air”, “Dark Island” and “Carolan’s Air.”
