Description

These three jigs form a good set for dancing or just for enjoying, either as a performer or as a listener. The scoring matches the majority of the others on this part of the website: Flute 1, Flute 2 / Descant Recorder, Violin, Accordion / Piano / Guitar and Cello / Bass. The melody instruments are largely interchangeable. The accordion provides a melody line plus accompaniment; the piano can ‘vamp’ (i.e. provide a rhythmic accompaniment based on the chords or play the melody as well, the guitar should play the chords, focussing on the strong beats of each bar but adding in additional rhythms when the music is better known and such additions are musically satisfying.

For a 4-couple dance, play the tunes and then repeat the first.

For a 5-couple set, play on the order 1 2 3 2 1.

For a 6 couple set, play either 1 2 3 1 2 3 or 1 1 2 2 3 3.

For a circle dance, follow the caller as to the number of playings.

The music should be lively and is suitable for performance by GCSE ensembles, for a folk / ceilidh band or as a Concert item.
