Description

This setting takes very early traditional words as the basis for a simple, homophonic and syllabic setting. The tune is original and its rhythm follows that of the text.

One word to note is the use of the early-English “eke”, pronounced “ake” and meaning “still.” If preferred, the modern English “still” can be sung instead.

Diction is, of course, very important and I know that different choir conductors will have their own views / preferences as to how “Lulla” and “Lullaby” should be sung. All I would ask is that “Lulla” is sing “Lu-lla” rather than “Loo-la”, “Lul-la” or “Lull-a”.
