The three Jigs were written at two different periods: two date from my time as a teacher in Newcastle and became part of an alternative set of tunes for the popular Ceilidh dance “The Waves of Tory.” The other is one of many tunes written during or after holidays in the Lake District. It commemorates one of several boat-trips on Derwentwater and, in particular, our stay at the Lodore Falls Hotel.

As befits this dance, these should be played with a strong beat and a real sense of ‘lift’. This adaptable arrangement, featuring a line-up in common with the majority of those I did for School Folk Bands, is adaptable with all parts bar one being written at concert pitch.

As well as for accompanying dancing, the set makes for a lively concert item and is sure to get audiences clapping along.

The indicated tempo of MM 100 is merely a guide and a slightly faster one may well be felt appropriate.

The music is suitable not only for Ceilidh Bands but also for KS4 GCSE Ensemble repertoire.
