Jump at the Sun

Instrumentation: Flute, Descant Record (Flute 2), Bb Clarinet, Violin, Accordion (Piano / Guitar), Bass

This is, in fact, an arrangement of 3 tradition folk tunes: Jump at the Sun, Miss Bennet’s Jig and The Lady in the Boat.

Written for a line-up I adopted during my teaching career of flute 1, flute 2 / descant recorder, clarinet, violin, accordion and bass (cello), these are three lively jigs in compound time. It is to be remembered that these were played for dancing and, therefore, should be played rhythmically.

There is a progression of keys, each providing a natural “lift” from G minor to G major to D major.
