Description

This analysis of Elgar’s First Symphony starts by providing some background information as to the composer and some of his other works, most notably his Enigma Variations.

The analysis then proceeds to deal with each movement in turn and in some detail, with musical excerpts to support the points being made and to help the reader / student follow the work and its musical content.

This is complicated piece of music but well worth the effort to get to know it and listen to it more than once. There are many fine recordings of this work, including a very early performance conducted by Elgar himself.
