Description

This is a setting I composed of the poem “Crossing the Bar” by Alfred Lord Tennyson (1806-1892) in 1973, when I was relatively new to teaching and was accompanist for a local Choral Union. The words of the poem immediately attracted me and the opening came straightaway. I have made but minor amendments in this revision, mostly adding in more detailed dynamic and articulation markings. I still have fond memories of my time with this choir.

It is written for SATB and, where there are smaller notes in the piano / organ part, these are for rehearsal only, if necessary.

The download includes a PDF score and mp3 recordings of an excerpt and the full piece, albeit realised using Sibelius software. The excerpt below is of the opening section for alto voices and piano / organ. The whole composition takes approximately nine minutes to perform.
