Description

The 3 jigs featured in this arrangement are all traditional jigs for dancing: they are The Blackberry QuadrilleMajor Mackie’s Jig and The Muckin’ o’ Geordie’s Byre. The arrangement is based on that to be found in the Folk Band section but is written here for Violin 1 – melody plus accompaniment from Violins 2 and 3.

“Cottagers” is a lively dance and, therefore, the music should be played with a sense of enjoyment and ‘lift’.

It is suitable as a Concert item and can also be used as a means of developing ensemble-playing skills, especially given that the most demanding part is in Violin I. Other possible uses are for GCSE Ensemble submission and / or towards the end of KS3 where there are suitable instrumentalists.
