Description

At a time when Torville and Dean were the supreme ice-dancers, the caller with the Ceilidh band I ran thought it would be a good idea to have a dance which included gliding movements. From this, “Skater’s Waltz” was born and I composed this tune especially for it.

It is here arranged for Flute 1, Flute 2 / Descant Recorder, Clarinet in Bb, Violin, Accordion / Piano / Guitar and Bass. The main melody is carried by the Accordion and the chords are shown there. The parts designated for the flutes, clarinet and violin can be re-assigned if necessary / desired.

While obviously conceived as a dance tune, this arrangement makes it suitable for Ensemble music at KS3, and KS4 / GCSE. In this latter case, it would work as an Ensemble submission, ensuring that the parts selected are not doubled elsewhere, if that is a requirement of the specification. As the added parts are varied the second time through the tune, this offers a piece which meets the requirements of all new GCSE specifications introduced in 2016.
