Description

These reels were composed in 1990 (Stanley’s Reeling) and 2000 (Stanley’s Still Reeling) respectively to mark landmark birthdays of a member of the Folk Dance group of which I was a member for over 25 years.  In fact, I was asked to play the first of these at his funeral.

They are lively dance tunes in either G major or G minor. It is aimed at the increasing number of “variable” arrangements I have made over the years, suitable for Folk / Ceilidh Band, general ensemble work or as part of a GCSE Performing submission, being careful in this last context to avoid too much doubling which covers the part to be assessed. While scored here for Flutes 1 & 2, Clarinet in Bb / C, Violin, Accordion / Piano / Guitar and Bass, there is ample room for substitution to meet the resources available.

The indicated tempo is within a range (MM = 90 – 96).
