Description

This is an arrangement of the traditional Irish tune, the Dargason. It is a Jig tune, i.e. in 6/8 and is just 8 bars long. The accompaniment includes drone figures and there is a short passage where the tune is adapted into 3/4 before returning to 6/8 for a Coda reminiscent of the ending of Haydn’s String Quartet “The Joke.”

Instrumentation: Flute 1, Flute 2 / Descant Recorder, Clarinet in B flat, Violin, Accordion / piano / Guitar and Cello / Bass. As with all my arrangements for this combination, there is room for flexibility.

It is suitable for players at KS3 / GCSE and could serve as an Ensemble piece for most examination boards, as long as rules regarding doubling of parts are observed.
