Description

This arrangement of three traditional 48-bar jig tunes has been a set I have played often over the years. This version adds a bass part to bring it into line with most of the other arrangements of folk music I have done.

Scored for: Flute 1, Flute 2 / Descant Recorder, Clarinet in Bb, Violin, Accordion / Piano / Guitar and Bass (or ‘Cello): the scoring is flexible, with the freedom to substitute any instrument with the required range. The essence of the arrangement – the melody and the chords – is in the Accordion line.

It is, primarily, music for dancing and should, therefore, have a strong sense of rhythm and energy. It can work as a Concert item, for ensemble practice, for use in the Ensemble part of the current GCSE examinations for the major examining boards and, of course, to accompany a dance. In this last case, it can be adapted for various situations: for 3 couples, playing the dances as A B C; for 4 couples – A B C A; for 5 couples – A B C B A; for 6 couples, either A A B B C C  or A B C A B C.

It is also music to be enjoyed and to create enjoyment!
